Charge your EV on excess solar with Emporia EV Charger

The Emporia EV charger has no custom OCPP server setting, so SundialEV connects through your Emporia account instead and adjusts the charging current to your solar surplus. Because it controls the charger rather than the car, any EV works.

Four steps, no new hardware

  1. Connect your solar
    In SundialEV, connect the system that reports your solar and grid. If you also own an Emporia Vue, the same Emporia login covers both.
  2. Choose Emporia
    In EV / Charger setup, choose Set up a wall charger → Emporia.
  3. Sign in with your Emporia email and password
    SundialEV signs in to your Emporia account to control the charger. Google or Apple sign-in accounts can't connect — create an email-and-password Emporia account and add the charger to it (a couple of minutes, no reset).
  4. Turn off Emporia's own schedules
    Disable the charging schedules in the Emporia app — SundialEV takes over charge timing, and the two fight if both are on.

Known limits

  • Needs an email-and-password Emporia account (not Google/Apple sign-in).
  • The charger reports no session energy counter, so Charge Now's kWh limit isn't offered (the time limit is).
  • Charging can't go below 6 A.
  • The charger doesn't report solar or grid: connect a solar source too.

Which EVs work: Any EV — SundialEV controls the charger, not the car, so the brand doesn't matter. Ford Mustang Mach-E, F-150 Lightning and E-Transit owners can also connect their Ford account (beta) so SundialEV reads the car's real battery level and charges to a target.

Frequently asked questions

Does the Emporia charger connect over OCPP?
No. Emporia's charger has no custom-server setting, so SundialEV uses your Emporia account's cloud connection instead. Nothing to switch on in the Emporia app beyond turning its schedules off.
Can I use this with an Emporia Vue?
Yes, and it's a good pairing: the Vue supplies the grid reading (and solar, with a CT on the solar circuit), and the same Emporia login covers both.
Which cars work?
Any EV that charges on the Emporia charger.
