Charge your Ford on excess solar

SundialEV charges a Mustang Mach-E, F-150 Lightning or E-Transit on surplus solar by throttling your wall charger. Connect your Ford account as well and it reads the car's real battery level, so it can stop at the charge level you choose and top up from the grid when the battery runs low. The Ford connection is read-only: your charger stays in control.

Live in the app — solar-only charging, in real time

Four steps, with a supported wall charger

  1. Connect your solar
In SundialEV, connect the system that reports your solar and grid — Tesla, Enphase, SolarEdge, Solis, Growatt, an Emporia Vue or Sense monitor, or the push API.
  2. Set up your wall charger
SundialEV controls charging through the charger, not the car: a Wallbox Pulsar Plus or an Emporia EV charger.
  3. Connect your Ford account
In EV / Charger setup, under Optional: connect your EV, choose Ford and sign in to Ford to approve read-only access.
  4. Pick your vehicle and plug in
Choose the car that charges at home. Its battery level appears on your dashboard, and charging follows the sun up to your charge limit.

What Ford gives SundialEV, and its limits

Provides

  • The car's battery level
  • A charge limit: SundialEV stops the charger when the car reaches it
  • Automatic low-battery top-ups from the grid, up to a level you set

Known limits

  • Read-only. SundialEV never sends a command to the car — it can't start or stop charging, wake the car, or change the charge limit set in the car. All control goes through the charger.
  • Needs a supported wall charger: Wallbox Pulsar Plus or Emporia.
  • Ford's cloud reports battery level in steps, often 20 to 50 minutes apart while charging, so the percentage can trail the car. The dashboard says when Ford's reporting is delayed.
  • One Ford vehicle at a time. You can switch vehicles in EV / Charger setup.
  • Battery-level top-ups replace time-window grid top-up schedules; connecting Ford turns those schedules off.

Which EVs work: Ford Mustang Mach-E, F-150 Lightning and E-Transit. Any other EV still charges on surplus solar through the same wall chargers, without the battery-level features.

Frequently asked questions

Does SundialEV control my Ford?
No. The Ford connection is read-only and supplies one thing: the car's battery level. Starting, stopping and adjusting the charging current all go through your wall charger.
Do I have to connect my Ford account?
No. A Wallbox Pulsar Plus or Emporia charger is enough to charge any EV on surplus solar. Connecting Ford adds the car's battery level, which is what lets SundialEV stop at a charge limit and top up automatically when the battery is low.
Why does the battery level lag behind the car?
Ford's cloud updates a car's battery level in steps rather than continuously — often 20 to 50 minutes apart during a charge. SundialEV dates every reading by Ford's own timestamp and shows when Ford's reporting is delayed.
