Charge your EV on excess solar with Tesla Wall Connector

SundialEV doesn't talk to the Wall Connector at all — it controls your Tesla directly, starting, stopping and setting the charging current through Tesla's vehicle API. The Wall Connector simply supplies the power, so solar-only charging works on it exactly as it would on a Mobile Connector or any other charger.

Four steps, no new hardware

  1. Connect your Tesla account
    Sign in with Tesla in SundialEV's EV / Charger setup and choose your vehicle.
  2. Pair the virtual key
    Approve SundialEV's virtual key on the car. Tesla requires it before any third-party app can send charging commands.
  3. Connect your solar
    Tesla Solar or Powerwall connect through the same Tesla sign-in. Enphase, SolarEdge, Solis, Growatt, an Emporia Vue, Sense, or the push API work too.
  4. Plug in
    SundialEV raises and lowers the car's charging current to follow your surplus, and pauses when clouds or household loads take it away.

  • From the car: battery level, charge limit, plugged-in and charging state, charging power
  • Commands: start, stop, set current, set charge limit

Known limits

  • Tesla vehicles only on this path — other EVs need a supported wall charger (Wallbox Pulsar Plus or Emporia).
  • The virtual key must be paired, or Tesla rejects the commands.
  • The lowest charging current is 5 A in most homes.

Frequently asked questions

Does SundialEV control the Wall Connector itself?
No — it controls the car through Tesla's vehicle API. That's why it works on any charger: Wall Connector, Mobile Connector, or a J1772 station.
Do I need a Powerwall?
No. Tesla's built-in Charge on Solar requires one; SundialEV doesn't. See SundialEV vs. Charge on Solar.
Why does it need a virtual key?
Tesla requires every third-party app that sends commands to a car to have its key approved on that car. SundialEV walks you through it during setup.
